2012 Schooner Wharf Battle of the Bars Results

Key West�s own local �athletes� turned out on Sunday during the island�s own Summer Games -- The 19th Annual Schooner Wharf Battle of the Bars. An impressive $21,618 was raised for local charities Womankind and the Boys and Girls Club, and the overall total is now $262,396 raised by this high-spirited charity event. Dan Dombroski, Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Club, said, �This event has a long tradition of helping the non-profits in our community, and the Boys and Girls Club is extremely grateful to be part of this wonderful day of giving.�	1st Place winners--Shots & Giggles' "The Shufflin' Big Shots". Photos by Dan Kolbe, Southernmost Photography	And Kim Romano, Womankind�s Executive Director, added, �I loved the proportionate relationship between generosity and amount of beer consumed as the day unfolded--what a madcap, only-in-Key-West kind of event! Womankind is very grateful to all participants and to the Schooner Wharf Bar!� Thirty-five teams from Keys bars and restaurants were pumped up to win and waged a fierce competition. Excitement was high as the 7-person teams ran the obstacle course, poured and served a margarita, recycled bottles, rolled and tapped a keg, and drank beer.
Shots & Giggles� �The Shufflin� Big Shots� took home the championship title, along with a trophy and bragging rights, with a final round time of 1 minute, 53 seconds. Team �Durty�s White Trash� from Durty Harry�s captured second place, and third place went for the second year in a row to Rick�s team, �Rick�s High Class�. The coveted Most Outrageous Team Costume award went to Sunset Tiki Bar & Grille with their �Sunset Tiki Storm Troopers� Star Wars theme and several costume changes; second place went to Azur/Sebago�s �Southernmost Azur Olympiad. Seven Honorable Mentions for Costume were awarded to Rumor Lounge�s �The Seven Sinners�; Willie T�s �Willie�s Night Crew�; Irish Kevin�s �Mashed Bangers�; Rick�s �Rick�s High Class�; Durty Harry�s �Durty�s White Trash�; Mr. Z�s �The Alcohol Avengers�; and Bare Assets� �Blue Ballers�. The Deepest Pockets award went to Tattoos & Scars Saloon�s �Tattoo This�, who contributed $3,050. Rick�s was awarded second place, and two Honorable Mentions went to Irish Kevin�s �Mashed Bangers� and Sunset Tiki Bar & Grille�s �Sunset Tiki Storm Troopers�. �It�s such a fun get-together. Everyone was extremely generous, all in the spirit of giving,� said Evalena Worthington, event organizer. �The energy level and excitement to win the bragging rights were amazing.
