The final race of the 2013 Schooner Wharf
Bar Wrecker's Cup Race Series is here, when captains, crews and passengers
race the seven miles to Sand Key on an annual quest for bragging rights on
this small island.
The "day of wreckoning" is Sunday, April 28th, at 1:00 p.m. when ships will reenact the times in Key West history when
wreckers would race to a disabled ship, rescue the crew and then lay claim
to the cargo. The five classes for the race series are: Classic, Schooner,
Multi-hull, Monohull over 30, Monohull under 30 feet.
Join your friends, captains and mates for a
day of rivalry on the high seas. Local and visiting yachtsman are all
welcome to join the fun.
The entry fee is $30.00, which includes free rum punch and hors d'oeuvres
at the Captain's Meeting on Saturday, April 27th, at 7:00 p.m. on the upper
deck at Schooner Wharf.
The Awards Ceremony will take
place after the race on Sunday at 7:00 p.m., where all wreckers can feast
on a BBQ dinner and share sailing stories while watching their maritime
adventure on a big screen television.
