Supplies are limited, but the creativity is endless at Schooner Wharf Bar on Sunday, May 28, 2006 for the 15th Annual Schooner Wharf Minimal Regatta.

Each 6 member team must build a boat seaworthy enough to stay afloat for the entire race course in the Key West Bight in front of Schooner Wharf. The catch---the boats are made of plywood, fasteners, duct tape, and 2' x 4's.

Minimal Regatta Construction Rules
1. One sheet of 4' x 8' x 1/4" plywood
2. Two 2" x 4" x 8'
3. One pound of fasteners
4. One roll of 2" x 60 yard duct tape
5. No caulking or adhesives - Epoxy paint is permitted
6. Painting of boats is optional
Construction kits can be bought at co-sponsor Manley de Boer on Simonton Street at a "minimal" price.

At least one member of the team must be at the helm of the little boat at all times during the race, and personal floatation devices are required for safety.

A shotgun start by Captain Morgan and the "Morganette Girls" will officially open the zaniest regatta you'll ever see.

Captain Jim Hale is a veteran at the Minimal Regatta, designing & captaining the Captain Morgan vessel for the past six years. He has taken home the trophy for First Place several times as well as Most Creative Design. Captain Hales winning philosophy, As long as I paddle fast & dont break down --- I do really good.

Last years winners in the Second Most Creative Design wont reveal their secret name & theme in their bid for the Most Creative Award. We have a reliable source that tells us the boat will be painted purple as well accessorized and the crew will be costumed. Team Captain Sue Maurers said Our goal is not to win the Sinker Award!

Another contender for the Most Creative Award Team Lazy Dog, says of the regatta, This is just our kind of event, one of our favorite days of the year. We are riding high from our 4th place in the Dragon Boat Races. The Lazy Dog team entered 12 years ago for the first time and have participated in 6 of them since.

Wail 99.5 with deejay Bill Hoebee will do a remote broadcast during the race, Hoebee officially challenges all other deejays and radio stations to beat his entry in the Minimal Regatta fleet. Live music provided by Michael McCloud & Friends will entertain the spectators and encourage the seafaring competitors. Victors, participants and spectators will celebrate and dance to the best live music on the island by The Bubba System after the Awards Ceremony.
