The 18th Annual Schooner
Wharf Battle of the Bars raised $25,230 for local charities Florida Keys
Healthy Start Coalition and Cancer Foundation of the Florida Keys. The
overall total is now $240,778 raised by this high-spirited charity event.
Arianna Nesbitt, CEO of Florida Keys Healthy Start Coalition, said, Ive
always known that Key West was special, but yesterday confirmed that our
quirky little community truly is invested in taking care of its own.
Business owners, servers and barbacks stood side-by-side on a hot
scorching day to ensure Keys babies in our community receive a healthy
start in life. We are truly grateful to Schooner Wharf, the referees and
all the teams who took time out of their day, money out of their wallets,
and drank a few for the cause.
Mercy Hiller, chairperson for Cancer Foundation of the Florida Keys added,
We are honored to be a recipient of the 18th Annual Battle of the Bars.
The tireless efforts of all involved Schooner Wharf, the bars and
restaurants, and the amazing team members is sincerely appreciated by
our all volunteer organization and the patients we assist throughout the
Florida Keys on a daily basis.
Thirty-seven teams from Keys bars and restaurants were pumped up to win
and waged a fierce competition. Excitement was high as the 7-person teams
ran the obstacle course, poured and served a margarita, recycled bottles,
rolled and tapped a keg, and drank beer.
Bourbon St. Pubs S.O.S. Bourbon Boozers took home the championship
title, along with a trophy and bragging rights, with a final round time of
1 minute, 37 seconds. Team Raw Bar Rowdies from Half Shell Raw Bar
captured second place, and third place went to Ricks Geek Squad.
The coveted Most Outrageous Team Costume went to Azur restaurant with
their "Southernmost Space Boozers"; second place went to Dante's "Demonic
Aqua Team Drinking Force". Six Honorable Mentions for Costume were awarded
to Sunset Tiki Bar & Grille's "Sunset Tiki Castaways", Conch Republic
Seafood Company's "Rock Out With Your Conch Out", Willie T's'

"Who the Hell is Pete?" and Irish Kevin's, who contributed without having
a team. They raised a combined total of $4,900. Irish Kevin's have been
winners of Deepest Pockets for five years. Dante's was given an Honorable
Mention for their second highest contribution and Danger Charters' "Danger
Rangers" also received an Honorable Mention. Everyone was extremely generous, all in the spirit of giving to two great
causes, said Evalena Worthington, event organizer. The energy level and
