Minimal Boat builder Chris Chatters, has been designing minimal vessels
for the past 6 years, and one year entered a fleet of 6 vessels which he
spent 4 months (and many regatta's) designing.. Chatters likes the fact
"you use your head to think, plan and design with such minimal materials
," he says with a big grin, "it should be against the law to have this
much fun!"
The
Coast Guard traditionally has 2-3 entries, Aaron Sorensen from the Coast
Guard Cutter Sitkinak, plans to defend his title as the fastest in the
open design category for the third time in four years, and said "hopefully
my new boat will prove "that the third time's a charm," and my new vessel
will be better, a little bit faster, and leak proof, the trick is to make
the best use of the duct tape!"
Contender Lee Mattingly has had an "absolute blast" the 7 years he has
participated and is "aiming to take back his 2001 title for fastest kayak"
he "loves all aspects of the unique competition from the designing to
building to racing."
Wail 99.5 with deejay Bill Hoebee will do a remote broadcast during the
race,
Hoebee officially challenges all other deejays and radio stations to beat
his entry in the Minimal Regatta fleet. Live music provided by Michael
McCloud & Friends will entertain the spectators and encourage the
seafaring competitors. Victors, participants and spectators will celebrate
and dance to the best live music on the island by Cool Breeze after the
Award Ceremony.
