SCHOONER WHARF’S MEL FISHER CELEBRATION
RAISES $5,500 FOR CHARITY

The 12th annual Mel Fisher Celebration, a tribute to Mel and Deo’s continual quest to fulfill their dream was held at Schooner Wharf last Thursday. The night’s festivities celebrated the day 25 years ago when Mel’s crews found $400 million in shipwrecked gold, silver and emeralds that had been sitting on the ocean floor for more than 300 years.

The Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Carl Fismer, who’s been a treasure salvager for 40 years. Events also included the Miss Atocha Bikini Contest; 50/50 Raffle and many other raffle prizes; and a chance to win an Atocha coin buried in a cupcake.

All together, $5,500 was tallied for the Mel Fisher Maritime Heritage Society, and will fund exhibitions as well as public programs including summer camp and other community events.

Becky Rios took home the Miss Atocha title and an $1,800 Atocha silver coin by raising the most money for the charity in the bikini show.

The Kick-Off Party for Mel Fisher Days will take place Thursday, July 15th starting at 6:00 p.m. Come celebrate the day 25 years ago when Mel’s crews found $400 million in shipwrecked gold, silver and emeralds that had been sitting on the ocean floor for more than 300 years. Start playing with sea treasures, masking tape, coins, jewels, or whatever creativity will cover part of you. Or dig out your favorite suit to sport down the catwalk. Participants in home made as well as store bought bikinis are eligible to compete this year.

GOLD DIGGERS AND DREAMERS ALWAYS WELCOME…
...to celebrate the life and times of the man who was both.

Golden dreams, precious memories and a healthy dose of mischief mark the annual Mel Fisher Days Kick-Off Party on July 15 at Schooner Wharf Bar.
